Author Guidelines

Plurality’s submission guide for authors may be downloaded at the bottom of this page, and it is the publication’s official guide for potential authors looking to submit their work. However, below we have provided information on the main points of information for authors. 

Plurality has two submission methods: 

  1. You can submit what is called a ‘proposal’
  2. You can submit an essay 

When you submit to our publication you must submit two separate documents 

1. A cover letter which must include the following information:

  • Your name 
  • Your email 
  • Title of your submission 
  • An abstract of 200-500 words (only if you are submitting an essay)

2. The piece itself, this will differ if you are submitting an essay or proposal 

     a. If you are submitting a proposal, it must include: 

  • Title of your submission 
  • Thesis statement 
  • A 300-600 outline of a main of argument which you plan to develop into an essay
  • 3-5 minimum academic sources relating to your arguments

     b. If you are submitting an essay, it must include: 

  • Title of your submission 
  • Your writing piece between 1500-3000 words including a bibliography

Formatting Guidelines: 

  • 12-point 
  • Times New Roman, or an alternative easily-readable font 
  • 1-inch margins on all sides 
  • If you are submitting an essay, it must be double-spaced 
  • All references must be in Chicago (author-date) (for our Law section we do also accept OSCALA)

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
