About the Journal
Focus & Scope
Edinburgh Architecture Research (EAR) is a non-profit, peer-reviewed open-access academic journal exploring the built environment and its overlap with numerous fields of arts, humanities and social sciences from but not limited to an architectural standpoint. We invite submissions in the form of articles, short essays, field reports (WIP) or book reviews. The editorial team also encourages the presentation of research in alternative forms including film, audio and photo essays. EAR is published annually by the posgraduate research students of the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at The University of Edinburgh since 1978.
For over forty years the journal has been an expressive vehicle of the diverse interests and contributions towards research in the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. EAR began as an in-house collection of working papers and developed over the years into a strong peer-reviewed architectural publication of wide recognition within the international academic community. It is currently listed in the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals and Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory. The journal has undergone a complete re-brand from print to online, from closed to open issues, from only publishing traditionally formatted papers to incorporating more discursive modes of enquiry and presentation. At the present, it seeks to contribute to scholarship by drawing links between various contemporary research interests around the globe.
