About the Journal

Your Research Counts. Make it Professional.

The Edinburgh Student Journal of Science is more than just a journal – it is a unique career development platform designed specifically for the next generation of scientists. We empower Honours and Master’s STEM students to take their research further, providing a professional, supportive pathway to their first academic publication.

We are a student-run, peer-reviewed Diamond Open Access journal with a mission to bridge the gap between learning and research for students in the physical and natural sciences. Originally launched within the University of Edinburgh in 2024, we now accept submissions from students at an increasing number of universities and institutions, enabling them to share their research and develop their skills.

Why Publish with us?

  • Stand Out from the Crowd: A professional publication is a powerful CV differentiator, putting you in the best position for PhD applications and research careers.
  • Professional Recognition: Every accepted article receives a DOI and professional indexing in Google Scholar, CrossRef, and DOAJ.
  • Expert Mentorship: Our double-blind peer-review is conducted by PhD students who provide constructive feedback to help you succeed.
  • Zero Barriers: We are a Diamond Open Access journal. It is completely free to submit, publish, and read.

Publishing Made Simple

We know academia can be intimidating. That’s why we’ve designed an accessible, high-standard workflow that works for you:

  • Three Flexible Formats: From 2,000-word ‘Letters’ for quick findings to 6,500-word ‘Extended Reports’ for full dissertations.
  • Rapid Turnaround: Build momentum with decisions in days, not months.
  • Full Support: We guide you through the entire process in a supportive environment, plus get started easily with our LaTeX and Word templates while we handle the professional formatting for you.

Who Can Submit?

We accept novel scientific research in the natural and physical sciences from later-year undergraduate (Honours) and Master’s students at a range of academic institutions. Whether it’s a summer project, a lab internship, or your final dissertation, your work deserves to be seen.
