Call for Editors: FORUM is Recruiting!

02-Oct-2024

FORUM – The University of Edinburgh’s Postgraduate Journal of Culture & the Arts is looking for a Deputy Editor and Assistant Editors to join our editorial board and work on the journal’s 36th issue. All candidates for these positions need to be enrolled in a PhD programme or a Master’s programme (either Taught or Research) at the University for the entire length of the academic year 2024–25.

The Deputy Editor (DE) will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and the Assistant Editors for the academic year 2024–25, before taking over as Editor-in-Chief in 2025–26. Therefore, a successful applicant for this position will be expected to remain matriculated for at least two more academic years. Although most of the editorial duties can be carried out remotely, the next DE will also need to be available in person to co-organise and host a number of events related to the journal (issue launch, team-building events, etc.).

The Assistant Editor (AE) will be an integral part of the peer review team, working with the Editor-in-Chief, the DE, and other AEs to decide which manuscripts go forward, and working with the article authors to prepare their work for publication. This is a 1-year position that can be extended depending on interest and matriculation.

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Proofreading and editing skills [AE & DE]
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills [AE & DE]
  • Ability to attend editorial meetings in both semesters [AE & DE]
  • Leadership and teamwork skills [DE]
  • Ability to organise and run training workshops [DE]
  • Proficient in, or able to learn, simple web technologies, especially Gmail and OJS [DE]
  • Prior experience of working with FORUM (preferred, but not essential) [DE]

To apply, please send a short CV (prioritising the above qualifications) and cover letter (max. 400 words) to Forum.Journal@ed.ac.uk by  10th November, 2024. In your CV, please mention 3 keywords defining your area of study/research and the expected end date of your PG programme.

Applicants must clearly indicate which position they are applying for in their email. If applying for both positions (due to lack of preference/equal qualification), please also ensure this is clearly indicated.
